Music is a life long gift that you can give your child, yourself, or your family!

When you think of signing your child up for sports I see it in every dads eyes that they will play for all the years they go to school, then the scholerships to go to college then the offers to pro ball. Regardless of the sport parents think of it as a long term activity for their children. Parents put time in practicing with their kids to help them succeed at sports

Why would guitar be any different?

When most parents sign up their children for guitar they think mostly in the short term that they will take for a few months and move on to a new activity. Guitar as any musical instrument should be viewed as a life long experience. How many 60, 70, and 80 year old football players do you see, but there are millions of 60, 70, and 80 year old guitar players including proffesional players still touring i.e The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Johnny Winter, and more. So when you sign up you child for guitar practice with them (I will help you) Take the class with them (call for details for free tuition for parents taking with their child.) Guitar is one of the very few things that moves with you from child hood to adult - to middle age - to old age, and still gives that same thrill as it did the first day you picked it up.

There a very few things that can do that for you child.
Music is a gift that comes from the heart!

Guitar for Kids is the only guitar school in the Oklahoma City area That offers classes for ages ages 6 to adult

Guitar for Kids is the #1 Guitar Education Studio in Oklahoma.

Guitar for Kids offers a dual learning program for kids: Classes rotate between acoustic and electric guitar which offers students a complete guitar education in all styles of guitar. Another benefit is it allows students two weeks to practice for each style making it a more progressive class. It also allows kids to combine knowledge when creating their own music or playing written music which is what playing guitar is all about.
Acoustic guitar: Kids and adults will learn Finger-style Guitar (Think “Beatles” “Blackbird”, “Kansas” “Dust in the Wind”, and “Led Zeppelin’s” “Stairway to heaven”.)

Students start with short guitar technique / Rhythm exercises which is designed to help their finger dexterity on both right and left hands, Students learn to read music, using a proven finger-style method that has great songs that the kids all like, as well as learning to read music students will learn, chords, strumming, scales, improve soloing acoustic style, music theory, and much more.
Electric guitar (An electric Guitar is provided for electric classes if kids don’t have their own electric guitar). I prefer students to start on a acoustic nylon string guitar (Students can also get a free guitar to begin classes - Call Doug at 405-340-8294 for details) All electric lessons are designed so they can be practiced on a student’s acoustic Guitar.

Students continue their technique rhythm program designed for Electric Guitar while they learn the techniques used by their favorite rock stars such as power chords, triads, Dyads and the scales used the most for solo's as well as many other techniques which allows them to create their own music.
The songs for electric guitar are designed to accent the techniques students are learning. The songs are generic to the rock world meaning all artists have played songs very similar to the ones students play. The songs are all designed for rhythm, lead, bass, and drums. (I play drums, or use a drum machine while the kids jam) Once a song is learned the students jam together as a band, which is the most amazing thing you can ever see when a class starts jamming together whether it is a acoustic jam or a electric jam It is an amazing sight to see and a complete blast to watch.

As students progress they move thru the from level 1 to 2 to 3 etc… of the program which allows them to always play with kids at the same level. If a student is motivated he can move quickly from a beginning class to the 2nd level. Once a student passes from the 1st level they will always be with students in the same level which keeps learning consistent and allows each students growth to expand at the pace that is right for them.
Take a tour of the Studio: Go to www.guitarforcoolkids.com and in the upper left corner is my videos where you take a tour of the studio. The studio is set up with an acoustic secton and a rock section. Each section is equipped with all the equipment necessary to for what the class is working on whether it is amps, microphones, drum, effect pedals, or specialty guitars. (For Example a 12 string, a 7 string or a bass guitar. If we need something to make classes work better Guitar for Kids will get it.

Not only do students learn everything about guitar they will also learn about the equipment that is used for both acoustic and electric guitar. A student can learn everything from A – Z amplifiers, pedal effects, microphones, drum machines, as well about artist in the past to the various artist that make up the vast world of rock, such as Bob Dylan to Frank Zappa. Student’s learn to be well informed so as they begin to build their own home studio or equipment for a band. This keeps students from making the same mistakes I made which in the end it throwing $100 bills out the car window.
Parents are welcome and encouraged to come to classes: With parents attending classes it gives accountability to the student since you know what he/she is doing and it gives me accountability to do my job which is teach your child. The big benefit though is that it allows you to help your child at home by watching and listening and with Guitar for Kids guides you can easily help your child grow in their music education. Parents have told me that participating at home with their child is allows them to spend quality time with their child. Some parents learn guitar along with their child, some just help either way you will see your child grow and there is nothing more rewarding.
Guitar for Kids Rocks is the only Guitar Studio rated Cool Factor 10. If you want to learn everything about guitar then Guitar for Kids is your best choice!

Interviewing a Guitar Teacher:

1. When looking for a guitar teacher ask if the teacher has a degree in music, and more importantly a minor or major in music education. (There are some great guitar players who play in bands and teach, That does not mean they are a great teacher. (Would you send your child to a school with untrained teachers?)
2. Can the parent can attend classes. (If not run!)
3. Is your child going to learn to read music? & Can the teacher read music (Most teachers Can't)
4. Does your teacher have a long term plan for your child’s growth?
5. Does the teacher play in a band? If yes does the teacher cancel classes for a gig leaving your child out of luck for their lesson?
6. Is the environment a good learning environment or is their noise from other lessons such as bass, drums, horns, etc… distracting your child’s learning.
7. Can you watch a class before signing up?
8. Do you pay for the time for your child to unpack and pack up after a lesson or is their time in-between classes for students to get ready.
9. Does the teacher answer his/her phone during classes, check e-mails, surf the web. (Don’t laugh it happens more than you would think)
10.Whether you come to Guitar for Kids or you go to another teacher or studio your child deserves the best guitar education possible. Music lessons are foreign to a lot of parents so I hope this helps if for some reason you aren’t able to attend the Best Guitar School in Oklahoma.

Due to its versatility, portability, and the fact that it can be used to play almost any type of music, the guitar is one of the most popular instruments to learn how to play. Whether you're interested in blues, jazz, country, rock, folk or any number of other musical styles, learning how to play the guitar can give you the ability to play and perform your favorite songs, or even write some of your own. But just like any instrument (or anything worth learning for that matter), learning to play the guitar can take a good deal of patience, perseverance, and good old-fashioned practice. For those who stick with it, though, learning how to play the guitar can be an extremely rewarding experience and can provide endless hours of personal enjoyment.
